The big inspiration I had for this concert poster came from the man who is featured, Danny Gatton. Danny is one of my favorite guitar players, and he recorded albums with artwork that exhibited his love for guitars and old cars. I wanted to create this to honor Danny any way I can for his influence, as well as to others who mourned his death by suicide in 1994. Originally, I was envisioning sort of a cluster type collage with images grouped together in the center of the page, and the concert date outlining the images. Speaking in honesty I had to modify the poster to the Electric guitar taking up the page with the concert information due to time constraints. Changing to my plans to that design was fairly simple in regards to sketching and text design, and symbolizing Danny's love of the Fender Telecaster electric guitar to be the centerpiece of the poster sits good with me. A few things I definitely wish I could of done better is to add color to the piece, as well has put a more specific concert date on it instead of just the year of the performance. One thing that challenged me was getting the contours of the guitar to look realistic, and adding the bottom portion of the fretted guitar neck I feel gave it a better look. Finally, I felt I strengthened the foundation of my communication with imagery by a bit with this design, and helped expose people to Danny's passion for music and cars through simple images and text.
