With the Drypoint Etching, I knew I wanted to re-create a picture of mine to symbolize an interest of mine in antique cars. The inspiration for this project really came from black and white pictures I've seen of cars like this 1928 Chevy in car magazines from it's day. I can't say I was influenced by a particular artist, but the idea of etching a car to look like a faded photograph was my main goal. With that, the vision I had for the piece actually came out the way I planned, except for some fine details in maybe the wheels and tires, but overall fairly up to par with what I had in mind. Plan wise, I did end up having to re-carve some fine details with the license plates, and "Class of 28' " lettering, but I think they turned out decently. One thing I'm pleased with overall is how I was able to capture the curvature of the fenders, rims, and hood with minimal use of outlines, how the hatching and crosshatching I used sort of brought those shapes to life. Finally, I'd say I learned a lot about taking photos and learning how to re-print them with etching by putting your own unique spin on it. Also, I feel I continued to grow as an artist by re-creating an antique machine, and utilizing etching to make a by-gone era of automobiles stand out.
