My main purpose for creating this Geofilter was to honor the family I know and didn't know dating back before I was born. The big inspiration I had for this piece was The Beatles "Yellow Submarine" album. That record was made at the beginning of the Psychedelic era of music, and the cover art for the album inspired the color scheme I ended up with, then leading to the family crest style inspired by the brotherhood the band shared.  This piece includes names and addresses of family farms that existed in the Quad City area, as well as the relation between the Moeller and Bayles family and symbols of objects the family members were and still are interested in. Originally, I was going for a design aimed towards just my immediate family, but I got the idea to include extended family (Moeller and Bayles) when I thought of my great-grandpa's accordion design to encompass my piece. I think my overall color scheme is one thing I did well on. I used the colors Black and Gold to symbolize the Bayles' family's love of the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Moeller's side love of the Iowa State Cyclones. The biggest challenge for me was learning to navigate Adobe illustrator, but after extra help from my teachers, I was able to figure it out. Overall, I think I grew as an artist in terms of digital art knowledge and learning how to utilize modern techniques to create projects like this.
